Today many in our community will be celebrating Sukkot if Jewish, or the Mid-Autumn Festival, also known as Moon Festival or Mooncake Festival, a traditional festival celebrated by many East and Southeast Asian communities.
Five days after Yom Kippur, Jews across the world celebrate Hag Ha’asif, “the holiday of the ingathering” of the harvest. This fall festival dates back to ancient times, most likely stemming from the close of the agricultural year when farmers reaped the bounty of their labors by physically gathering seasonal fruit and spiritually thanking God for their plenty. Similarly, our Asian friends celebrate the Moon Festival in China, Tet Trung Thu in Vietnam, while Koreans celebrate it as Cheosuk. It is observed on the 15th day of the eighth lunar month, Sept. 21 this year, when the moon is believed to be at its fullest and brightest of the year.
All who celebrate consider it a precious time for gathering with family and friends, as the full moon signifies family reunion, and is also celebrated by giving thanks and prayers for good fortune.
South Coast Plaza celebrates the Autumn Harvest Festival September 11-21. The lunar holiday is a tradition among many Asian cultures and is known as the Chinese Mid-Autumn or Moon Festival, the Korean Cheosuk and the Vietnamese Tet Trung Thu. Orange County Supervisor Katrina Foley said she agreed that this should be a countywide solution.

Thank you for doing that, but it’s time that the county step up and provide that assistance. You receive 15,000 calls for service in a year. Imagine that, times 34 cities. We need to have this model throughout Orange County.” ... See moreSee less

I was delighted to join the Huntington Beach Be Well Mobile Response Press Conference this morning to discuss this crucial and important step forward. This program will ease the burden on police and provide residents with well equipped professionals to handle mental health related calls. I spoke about how this model should be replicated County wide and that it is the County’s responsibility to staff and fund it, which is something that I am determined to accomplish.Photos from OC Supervisor Katrina Foley's post ...
